EDP | Duration brewery in West Acre among UK’s best breweries

Eastern Daily Press by Ian Burke

We made the local paper when Ian Burke got in touch to interview us following our write up in The Times.

Pete Brown sang the praises of Duration, from West Acre between Swaffham and King’s Lynn, in an article for The Times.

He said they make:

A shrewd combination of the kinds of lagers and pale ales that are popular in craft beer bars – barrel-aged, spontaneously fermented and drawing on local ingredients and inspiration.

Run from a restored 16th century stone barn by married couple Miranda Hudson and Derek Bates, Duration began in 2019 with a mission to ‘make beers that belong.

Their remote location plays a huge part in the duo’s approach, with wild yeasts helping to ferment their unique farmhouse ales.

Miranda told the EDP:

Being rural allows us to work with some great suppliers for grain, botanicals and fruit which undoubtedly connects our products more closely to beers agricultural roots. Our location inspires us – the creative solitude you get from being rural brings focus and manufacturing surrounded by nature and farmland feels very special to us.

To have such a highly regarded beer critic put us in one of the country’s most respected broadsheets has blown us away. We are chuffed to bits, astounded even. We love what we do – having such a prestigious accolade as being in the top 8 of 1,600 breweries in the UK makes us feel super proud of our team and for Norfolk.

We are thrilled to have received this accolade but really the tribute right now should go to Norfolk’s great hospitality venues, for us often food-led village pubs, you work with real passion as our ambassadors in incredibly challenging times.

We need to support our locals and all the places you go to for good beer.
