2020: Looking back with gratitude

Happy Holidays Y’all

20 beers put out, our team has grown from 3 to 6. Got a bottling line and doubled our cellar capacity and we couldn’t have done any of it without your support, thank you! Whether it’s been a cheeky six-pack, a recommendation to a friend or a simple post share we hold the humblest of gratitude to you. We’re having a look back at our highlights of 2020.

Jan – Feb – Mar

Fresh off our Bedrock launch we welcomed friends for hangs and collabs while launching an array of our fresh beers. In January, firm favourites Sweeping CoastDripping Pitch and Doses were brewed for the first time in house and we welcomed Cloudwater to brew collab, Petrichor, following an open invitation to brew at theirs in our nomadic days.

In February, we welcomed Fonta Flora and Nurtured in Norfolk for collaborations. Our Fonta Flora collab was the first coolship brew to enter our wood division — releasing in 2021. We also won some medals including Best New Brewery from RateBeer for Mila to wear proudly.

In March, Baubles of VanityLittle FanfareShifting Baseline and Task at Hand found their way out to you. Our co-founder Miranda took part in two Women’s brews over and Northern Monk – in Leeds and Burnt Mill – in Suffolk.

Apr – May – Jun

From this point on the year was nothing as planned. Pubs closed and we became an entirely reactive and adaptive business due to the Covid-19 pandemic. You can listen to the Cabin Fever Podcast to find out more about how the pandemic made us bend our business. Our strategy to hunkerdown and focus on the wins to avoid beating this pandemic drum too much.

We ran a mega Turtles competition to win a lockdown supply of Turtles by finding a lucky can with a Turtle drawn my our daughter Mila adorning its underside. (Yes, this was an attempt at a marketing homeschooling project!)

We joined an esteemed group of UK breweries to Buy a Pint for the NHS. With your beer kindness, we raised a bar tab of 300 beers via our webshop for East Anglia. These are still up for grabs at our kiosk if you’re an NHS worker yet to claim make a point to visit any Fri or Sat in the New Year

We launched our first founder-led online tours which still run monthly with beer we ship to your door for the second Thursday of every month. Plus Bend Before You Break released, a beer we’ve just rebrewed. And for long reads, we were incredibly humbled by Lily Waite’s piece for Good Beer Hunting.

Jul – Aug – Sep

On the 4th of July, the pubs re-opened and Quiet Song was released in a national roll out to be #HereForIndieBeer.

We finally got to hold and turn the page on our front cover feature if the Brewer’s Journal, a proud feat for a new brewery entering the UK scene with a look to expand the beer offering.

Our kiosks continued in the summer easing with smiling faces, baked goods and new releases Concrete Realities and Lean Into Fear.

We finally had friends to come for responsible visits and Duration songbird Matthew Curtis wrote ‘This Dirty Old Town’ after escaping the city for a short Norfolk getaway.

Bourdie, our little scamp of a Springador joined us on the Duration adventure in September. For a moment of pure joy where he met a horse for the first time – click here.

Oct – Nov – Dec

Our first Märzen, Harvest Bier sold out in October 2020. A beer that head brewer, Bates had been longing to brew finally came to fruition.

Remember When The Pub introduced our new resident artist and our ongoing ‘Remember When…’ series of fresh beers. On the dark side, Ebb & Flow returned for the first time since it’s nomadic days and was soon joined by Fortitude, our first Imperial Stout.

In November, co-founder Miranda gave her most open and revealing interview so far to Nick Law at the Hop Forward podcast. A humbling listen back if we do say so ourselves.

In the wood division, we installed our bottling line for packing our slow, spon Fermata beers. Coming soon in 2021 will be our Bière de Garde, Time Marches On and our foeder aged Bet The Farm𝄐.

Our kiosk took a festive twist with pop-ups from fellow local, Norfolk producers and featured an array of fresh merch for you to cosy up in and adorn your own Norfolk adventure.

Duration-20

It’s been a year, that’s for sure! We’ve learned we can be together while apart. Thanks for being there with us and we’re wishing you and yours every success in 2021.

We’re still here for the Duration.

Best wishes,
Bates, Miranda and Team Duration
