It’s always a good feeling when someone recognises what you’re trying to do with a beer, especially when it comes from one of the world’s great beer writers.

We’re pretty chuffed to see Duration and Co-founder Bates featured in a recent piece from Pellicle, exploring 30 years of Birrificio Italiano’s legendary Tipopils and the influence it has had on modern pils brewing.

The article, The Shape of Pils to Come, looks at how Tipopils helped shape the idea of the Italian pils: a beer built on the bones of a German lager, but with a greater emphasis on hop aroma and flavour through dry-hopping.

And, somewhere along the way, Cuttin’ Grass gets a mention.

After trying the beer at Beer Hatch in Norwich, writer Adrian Tierney-Jones describes his reaction simply:

“Tipopils!”

It’s a pretty neat connection. Tipopils has become one of the most influential pilsners in modern European brewing, inspiring brewers around the world to push what a pils can be while keeping its crisp, lagered foundations.

For us, Cuttin’ Grass is our take on that idea. Clean, crisp and lagered, but with the hops given a little more room to speak.

We’re always interested in where beer takes us, and it’s particularly cool to see one of our beers mentioned in a piece exploring the history, evolution and influence of a beer as important as Tipopils.
