Sunday Times | UK’s 8 Best Brewery Taprooms

Pete Brown, The Sunday Times resident beer expert has picked out the UK’s top 8 brewery taprooms – we’re pleased as punch to say that we made the list!
With more than a third of the UK’s 2000 off breweries now having their own tap room, he says where better is there to drink a beer a few yards from where it was brewed, and where you may even spot the brewers at work too.
Honoured to be up there with friends Wiper & True, The Kernel, Balance Brewing & Blending, St Mars of the Dessert, Wylam, Kirkstall and -a new one for us- Lakedown. How many have you been to?
Here’s what Pete had to say about Duration…
Duration, Norfolk
At this farmhouse brewery near West Acre, the taproom sits in an old barn. The beers are a product of the landscape, from the world-class Norfolk barley to an in-house yeast strain (used in the funkier farmhouse specials) that’s cultivated from local microflora. So it makes sense that Duration is hot on sustainability. With a large courtyard, grassed areas and nothing but fields and trees nearby, it’s the perfect taproom for summer — though the location is beautiful in winter too. If it feels a little out of the way, there’s camping and holiday accommodation nearby. Food comes from a range of visiting trucks — seafood and tapas add variety to the standard taproom pizza. Turn up on the first Saturday of each month and you can have a tour of the brewery followed by a tutored tasting of four beers (£25; one hour).

Pete Brown was also kind enough to put us in his Financial Times piece the The Unlikely Chic Saviour of Real Ale and included some of our beers in his book on Beer By Design | The Art of Good Beer Branding
